THE TICKER MUSEUM NEWS
Teens Learn About Personal Finance at MFA Boot Camp
In February, the Museum launched the
Museum Finance Academy (MFA) Boot
Camp, a motivational finance experience
for high school sophomores and juniors,
with sessions offered during Winter and
Summer breaks. More than 20 students
participated in the first session of the
boot camp, and all received certificates of
completion.
MFA Boot Camp is similar to one of
the Museum’s most popular educational
programs, the Museum Finance Academy,
but geared towards slightly younger stu-
dents and offered over a shorter period of
time. Founded by the Museum in 2010, the
Museum Finance Academy is an after school
program for high school juniors and seniors
that teaches students to aspire to financial
independence, develop an appreciation for
savings, make financial goals and learn to
avoid scams. Students who participate in
this program learn the life cycle of spending
and saving, which is vital for students as they
leave high school and move on to college or
a career. In addition to engaging, interac-
tive classroom experiences, the curriculum
includes field trips to places of interest in the
world of finance, including the New York
Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve
Bank of New York. The program also uses
the Museum’s own extensive collections
and in-house expertise to teach the students
certain financial lessons.
Currently, the Museum offers both the
Museum Finance Academy and MFA
Boot Camp free of charge to all participat-
ing students. More than 106,000 students
have participated in the Museum’s educa-
tional programs since 2010.
The next session of the MFA Boot
Camp will be held August 5–8, from 10:00
a.m.–2:30 p.m., with a 30-minute break for
lunch. Registration will open in late May
at www.moaf.org/mfa.
